Lady Vols win softball series at Alabama despite Monday loss

The seventh-ranked Tennessee softball team accomplished a feat unmatched by any previous team in program history over the weekend.

Tennessee went on the road and beat Alabama in a three-game series that ended Monday night with the Crimson Tide bouncing back to salvage a game.

The Lady Vols (40-9, 10-8 SEC) won the first game of a Saturday doubleheader 1-0 and followed it up with a 13-3 win in which they scored in six of the seven innings. The 13 runs were the most Tennessee has scored in an SEC game this year.

Jenna Holcomb, Scarlet McSwain, Chelsea Seggern and Meghan Gregg each had two hits in the contest.

Alabama (28-15, 8-10) won Monday night's game 4-0.

Tennessee hosts Kentucky in a three-game series for senior weekend beginning Friday, although it likely will not be the last time the Lady Vols play at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium this year. Tennessee has positioned itself to potentially be one of 16 teams in the country to host an NCAA regional next month.
