Chattanooga has been a difficult market for us to support….

Revelator Coffee, an anchor tenant in the Nautilus Building on Chattanooga's trendy North Shore, shut down on Friday after more than three years.

Meredith Singer, the Birmingham-based company's director of marketing and brand strategy, said that part of Revelator's growth includes making hard decisions about a few of its early and under-performing stores.

"Chattanooga has been a difficult market for us to support, and our staff there really did the best they could out of that location," she said about the coffee shop that opened in 2015 at Frazier Avenue and North Market Street.

Marcus Lyons of Bluestar Properties said the company is looking for a new tenant once Revelator fully moves out that fits the North Shore's atmosphere and neighborhood.

He said the nine apartments located in the building are full, and it has leased ground floor retail space along North Market.

"It will be a tenant that complements Coolidge Park and the neighborhood," Lyons said.

Emma McMinn, the coffee shop's manager, said three people worked at Revelator on Friday, though the workforce was up to six at one time.

"My staff have been incredible, and I'm humbled by them for sticking it out with me," she said. "My customers, like always, have been supportive ... "

Customer Jody Vasileff said he came to the shop often because he lives nearby.

"It will be missed," he said, noting it was easily reached by foot.

The Nautilus Building, a 1940s structure located at the high- profile intersection, was refurbished prior to Revelator moving in as a tenant in a $1.6 million project.

Across North Market, a restaurant located in the ground floor of the Bridgeview building closed last fall. Full Moon American Burger and Bar had been open for about 18 months.

On Frazier Avenue, about a block from Revelator Coffee, a 21-room hotel is proposed for the site of a longtime North Shore restaurant building next to the Walnut Street Bridge. A developer is proposing to put the four-level hotel at 202 Frazier Ave., where the former Northside Lunch eatery operated for many years.

Also on the North Shore, at the corner of Cherokee Boulevard and Manufacturers Road, an 84-unit apartment complex, known as the 10/North Apartments, opened earlier this month.
