David OliphantA witness said Raymond Hill was stabbed after intervening when David Oliphant first tried to stab the witness in the 1000 block of Peeples Street early Saturday morning.
Oliphant approached them demanding they give him their beer, according to court records.
Another witness said Oliphant followed Raymond Hill "all day trying to start disorders," court records state.
Hill was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Chattanooga police.
Oliphant was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after police found him with a knife and with blood on his hands, arms and clothing.
He was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
