STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (AP) - Police in Georgia say an 8-year-old girl has died after she and her mother were struck by a vehicle as they were crossing a street to get to a school bus.

Local news outlets report that Tluang Tha Men died from injuries suffered when the driver hit them Friday morning in Stone Mountain, east of Atlanta. Police say the girl's mother, Dawt Chin Sung, suffered minor injuries.

DeKalb County police spokesman Lt. Lonzy Robertson told WSB-TV that the driver, 38-year-old Ejigayheu Tsegaye, had a green light, but the school bus was stopped and had its lights flashing and stop sign out. The girl and her mother were in a crosswalk when they were hit.

Robertson said charges were pending against Tsegaye.
