Greg Goza picked as TVA engineer of the year

Greg Goza, a transmission engineer who has helped coordinate power service from the Tennessee Valley Authority to industrial customers that helped lead to nearly $1.5 billion of business investments in the past three years, was recognized Friday as the 2018 TVA Engineer of the Year.

Goza, a 44-year TVA employee, won the Ike Zeringue Engineer of the Year award, which is named after TVA's former president and chief nuclear officer. Goza, who was honored at the TVA board meeting in Chattanooga where he now works, serves as the primary interface between TVA's transmission planning department and TVA's economic development staff, which works to recruit industry into TVA's 7-state region.

Goza has worked to coordinate TVA's response to 77 industrial inquiries involving more than 370 site requests in just the past three years. TVA said Goza's work helped land five large companies which collectively are expected to add 2,400 jobs in Tennessee during the period, TVA officials said.

"Greg has distinguished himself as a leader who tirelessly helps create job opportunities for our friends and neighbors," said Bob Dalrymple, TVA's senior vice president of transmission and power supply.

TVA President Bill Johnson praised Goza for his "significant contributions to lift up our communities by bringing new jobs into the region, which supports TVA's mission of improving life in the Valley."

Goza, a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, is a senior program manager for TVA's industrial development, transmission planning and asset management group. Goza also is a finalist for the Federal Engineer of the Year award, which will be presented Feb. 23.
