Police in Trenton, Ga., said a local woman who was struck at an intersection by a school bus there on Tuesday has died.

Police Chief Christy Smith said 70-year-old Linda Diane Hulgan, of Wildwood, Ga., died Thursday morning from injuries she sustained when a Dade County school bus struck her as she crossed the road at U.S. Highway 11 and Georgia Highway 136 around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

That's school dismissal time for some Dade County students, and the bus was headed to Dade Middle School to pick up students, according to the Associated Press.

The Georgia State Patrol is conducting the investigation into the accident, Smith said. The chief said the state agency is also studying the crosswalk and signal operations at the intersection where it occurred.

School officials said there were no children aboard the bus at the time of the incident.

Smith said she first met Hulgan last summer when the community's Silver Bells Christmas project was being formed.

"I knew it was her as soon as I got on the scene," Smith said on Thursday.
