Blood Assurance is in critical need of type O-positive blood donations.

The number of donors typically drops during the winter as fewer people venture out to give blood, said Caitlyn Mantooth, a spokesperson for Blood Assurance.

"We're always in need – the need never stops," Mantooth said. "There's no way currently to manufacture blood, so the only supply we have comes from people generously donating."

Blood donations can be made at one of three area facilities in the Chattanooga area: downtown, Hixon and on Gunbarrel Road. Mobile blood drives are also taking place and can be found by visiting the website www.bloodassurance.org.
