A man who was indicted last year on multiple counts of statutory rape faces a new batch of charges after leading police on a foot chase through an apartment complex, over Morrison Springs Road and onto the Red Bank High School football field.

Police were dispatched around 4 p.m. Monday to the 4000 block of Mountain Creek Road on a report of a robbery from a caller who stated she was afraid for her life because Rodriquez Jones, 25, was "acting crazy" was in the home, according to court documents. She said there were active warrants out for him, but the phone line disconnected shortly after.

The suspect was attempting to leave the scene when police arrived and he tried to run when officers yelled, "Police! Stop!" They then chased him in the direction of Red Bank High School as he threw away a cellphone allegedly taken from the victim.

Cars in all lanes of traffic squealed to a halt on Morrison Springs Road to avoid hitting the suspect as he sprinted across the road. When police caught him, Jones was found to be in possession of marijuana as well as the victim's wallet with all of her credit cards and cash.

The victim told police she originally called 911 because Jones was yelling at her and threatening her before he went around the home unplugging all the appliances. She said she tried to call police, but he took the phone away from her and broke it. He then took her cellphone and locked the front door, preventing her and her child from leaving.

Jones was indicted last year by a grand jury on three counts of statutory rape and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in connection to three separate incidents in 2016 and 2017 in which he allegedly had sex with a child between the ages of 15 and 18.

He was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on Monday. His next court appearance is Jan. 16 before General Sessions Judge Clarence Shattuck. He is scheduled to appear before Criminal Court Judge Don Poole on Jan. 19 for the charges stemming from the grand jury indictment.
