A fire destroyed a shed, damaged two houses and displaced a family Wednesday night in Chattanooga.

The Chattanooga Fire Department received a report of a structure fire on the 1800 block of East 26th Street about 8:20 p.m. While responding they were told that the structure was a large shed and the fire had extended to a house behind it and several trees had caught fire as well, according to a fire department news release.

Several crews arrived and began a fire attack on the shed and trees from one side and other fire crews set up exposure protection on the other side. Meanwhile, crews entered the exposed residence and determined that it was on fire on the second floor and in the attic.

Firefighters were quickly able to bring the blaze in the residence under control and as well as the shed and tree fires. The shed had been completely engulfed in fire before the fire department's arrival and was a total loss.

Fire in the residential structure was contained to the second floor and the attic. Damages were estimated to be $25,000 on the residence and $2,000 on the shed.

A third house also received heat damage to it's siding. That damage is estimated to be $1,000.

A family of several adults and children were displaced because of the fire and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Hamilton County Emergency Services, Chattanooga Police Department and EPB also provided assistance.
