ORIGINAL STORY: Commuters not already sick at home with the flu would be wise to exercise a little extra caution on the roads Tuesday as Chattanooga is expected to receive between a half-inch and an inch of snow throughout the day.

The National Weather Service announced a winter weather advisory will be in effect for Hamilton County between 4 a.m. and 7 p.m. and meteorologists are keeping their eyes on a system bringing another few days of freezing temperatures with it.

Hamilton County Highway Department road crews are currently spreading brine on main county arteries in preparation for Tuesday's anticipated snow event.

We're going to have a cold front dropping in from the northwest and that's what's going to bring in the cold air and snow behind it," said Andrew Moulton, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tenn. "We have about a 60-70 percent chance of seeing snow, so better-than-not odds."

He expects the snowfall will begin around sunrise and continue throughout the day, ending sometime around sunset.

"It'll be a relatively light snow and when everything's said and done, I'd expect to see reports of around a half inch to an inch," he said. "After that it'll just be really cold for a few days. Tomorrow I think the high is going to be right around freezing and overnight the low will be in the low teens."

He said residents in higher elevations should be particularly careful on secondary roads when conditions get icy, but even drivers on main roads should budget some extra time for their trip home after work.

"The morning commute should be OK, but if people are leaving work tomorrow, take it a little slow."
