Train cleared after derailing in North Georgia

A train that derailed in Trenton, Ga on Tuesday afternoon has been put back on the rails and cleared out of the way, according to police.

Trenton Police Chief Christy Smith confirmed Vanguard Drive was open again and cranes brought in by Norfolk Southern to lift the train had been removed.

She said it was unclear exactly what caused the accident, but had been told by one of her officers that one of the conductors made a small mistake while trying to avoid an oncoming train.

"They were not going at a high rate of speed and no one was injured," she said.
