Despite students being out of class all week so far, the Hamilton County Department of Education school board meets this afternoon for its regularly-scheduled board meeting at 5:30 p.m. today.

The board along with Superintendent Bryan Johnson will meet prior to the board meeting for a work session and policy meeting to discuss the recent results of the annual State Report Card as well as district and state compliance with the Every Student Succeeds Act.

On the agenda, the board will recognize seven National Merit Semifinalists, discuss grant applications for a new math curriculum for Opportunity Zone schools and a marksmanship range for Hixson High School, as well as approving contracts for a new website, the purchase of HVAC Gas Packs for Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences and Ooltewah Middle School, and more.

Watch for updates on the architects chosen to complete some of the projects that are part of the district's capital plan, unveiled last fall. In December, a list of architects chosen for interviews were released and those interviewed were supposed to take place this month.
