A Florida man died on the Sequatchie River in Marion County, Tennessee, Sunday.
Daniel Atkinson, 38, drowned while kayaking in the Ketner Mill area with his wife and two children.
Witnesses said Atkinson took the kayak out to show his family maneuvering techniques when he paddled toward the dam. The water from the dam overturned the kayak and he was pulled under by the strong current.
People in the area were able to pull him out of the water to the shore and started CPR until emergency personnel arrived.
Atkinson was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
