Mother charged after 3-month-old found dead in Tennessee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The mother of a 3-month old girl who was found dead in a Tennessee apartment told emergency responders she thought the baby could breathe underwater.

The Commercial Appeal reports Memphis police responded to a suicide call Sunday and found 22-year-old Jayml Price unresponsive in the bathtub. An arrest affidavit says police then found the deceased baby wrapped in a blanket on a bedroom floor.

Price told police she took her daughter to a pool and placed her underwater for several seconds. They say she then took the child to her apartment and performed CPR, but never called 911.

The woman said she'd realized her daughter was dead and tried to end her own life.

Price was charged with offenses that include aggravated child abuse. It's unclear if she has a lawyer.
