Cherokee Cultural Celebration set for Aug. 4-5 at Red Clay State Park

Red Clay State Park in Bradley County, Tennessee, will be the site of the 2018 Cherokee Cultural Celebration on Aug. 4 and 5.

Activities begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m. and there is a $5 charge per vehicle for parking.

The event this year will feature the Warriors of Ani Kituwah, a traditional dance group and cultural ambassadors of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

Eighteenth Century living history demonstrators from the Oconaluftee Indian Village in Cherokee, North Carolina, will give demonstrations of traditional pottery, basket weaving and fashion beadwork, according to event information on the Red Clay State Park website.

The Wolftown Stickball players will demonstrate "an intense game of stickball," organizers said.

A traditional blowgun tournament will be held in which top performers can win cash prizes.

For the hungry, traditional foods as well as contemporary favorites will be available. All artisans are citizens of one of the three Cherokee Nations, officials said.

This event is sponsored by the Cherokee Preservation Foundation, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Cherokee Nation, United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians, Tennessee State Parks and the Friends of Red Clay.
