Six months after announcing plans to resign and four arrests since her election, Grundy County (Tennessee) school board member Kasey Anderson has finally stepped down.

Anderson sent an email on May 26 confirming her resignation to Grundy County Mayor Michael Brady, he told the Times Free Press. Anderson's email was not immediately available, and she was not reachable Thursday for comment.

Brady said Anderson's resignation is not complete until it's been accepted by the County Commission. The commission will vote to accept it at its June 25 meeting.

Tennessee law states the county legislative body is required to make an appointment to fill a vacancy within 120 days of receiving notice of the vacancy unless a general election is scheduled during that time.

Since Anderson's resigned within 120 days of the August general election, and her sear in the First District is on the ballot and has candidates who have qualified to seek that office, the County Commission will not appoint someone someone to fill her vacancy, Brady said.
