Lookouts out of first-half title race after loss

BARONS 4, LOOKOUTS 1

Friday's road recap: The Lookouts took the game's first lead when Tanner English led off the third inning with a single, moved to second on a groundout, went to third on a passed ball and came home on another groundout. But Chattanooga left runners stranded at first and second that inning, and Birmingham tied it up in the bottom half when Bryant Flete drew a leadoff walk, went to second on another walk and scored on an infield error. The Barons went ahead on Trey Michalczewski's home run to right field in the sixth and got their final runs when Danny Mendick and Eloy Jimenez scored on Seby Zavala's double in the eighth. The loss eliminated Chattanooga from the race to win the Southern League North Division's first-half title.

Next up: Game four of a five-game series in Birmingham, Alabama, is tonight at 7:30 EDT.

Pitchers: Sean Poppen (0-3, 9.00) is scheduled to start for the Lookouts, while the Barons are set to make a game-day decision.
