Publix will open its sixth grocery store in the Chattanooga market next week when it opens a 45,600-square-foot store at The Village at Waterside just north of Hamilton Place Mall.
The new supermarket, scheduled to open at 7 a.m. on March 14, will employ 125 workers and anchor the growing Waterside development near the Shallowford Road exit on Interstate 75. The new Publix will include a bakery, wine department, a full-service meat and seafood department and a cooking demonstration station for Apron Simple meals.
Publix opened its first store in Chattanooga in East Brainerd a decade ago and has grown since with other local stores in North Chattanooga, Hixson, Ooltewah and Cleveland, Tenn.

Publix is privately owned and operated by its more than 190,000 employees, with 2016 sales of $34 billion. Currently, Publix has 1,172 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
