Ooltewah home catches fire after juvenile plays with matches

An Ooltewah home caught fire after a juvenile played with matches in his closet on Friday afternoon, according to a news release from Hamilton County Emergency Services.

Firefighters responded to the home around the 4000 block of E. Freedom Circle to find a bedroom and closet on fire. The mother told firefighters she heard the smoke alarm and went to investigate when she found the closet on fire.

The mother and juvenile were able to escape the house without injuries.

The fire has been ruled as accidental and damages are listed at $40,000, according to the release.
