SWAINSBORO, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia man who authorities say claimed to be an Uber driver is accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman.
A news release issued Tuesday by the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office says 25-year-old Matthew James Chalkley turned himself in to face a rape charge.
In November 2017, the woman reported a sexual assault to deputies at a Georgia hospital. She told investigators Chalkley said he was an Uber driver who would give her and a friend a ride home. She said she was then sexually assaulted at his residence.
The ride-sharing company said Wednesday it had no record of Chalkley as an Uber driver and cautioned riders to only book fares through the app.
It's unclear whether he has a lawyer; a phone listing for him was disconnected.
