UT tennis teams' seasons end in NCAA tournaments

The Tennessee men's and women's tennis teams' seasons came to an end over the weekend in North Carolina during NCAA tournament play.

In their first trip back to the tournament since 2015, the 20th-ranked men beat the University of North Carolina-Wilmington 4-0 in a first-round match Saturday in Chapel Hill before Sunday's 4-0 loss to host North Carolina, the No. 7 national seed. The Volunteers finished the season 21-9.

Tennessee's top singles player, 16th-ranked Timo Stodder, will play later this month in the NCAA's 64-man singles tournament. The Vols' top pairing of Preston Touliatos and Luis Valero, ranked seventh, will compete in the NCAA's 32-team doubles tournament. Both competitions are May 23-28 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The 38th-ranked Tennessee women lost 4-2 to No. 33 Oregon in the first round Friday, bringing their season to an end with an 18-12 record.
