Firefighters at Chattanooga Fire Department Station 20 in Lookout Valley helped out Tuesday morning when a family brought in a kitten that had gotten its head stuck in a Mason jar, according to a department Facebook post.

One of the firefighters, Capt. Eric Stone, used a pair of sheet metal crimpers from his part-time heating and air conditioning work to trim away enough glass to remove the kitten's head, and a grateful family got "Cotton" back in good shape. Other firefighters assisting were Lt. Larry Gann, James Palmer and Tim Honish.

Such work apparently is not unusual for firefighters, as on May 2 Chattanooga firefighters rescued another kitten that was trapped in a vehicle's engine compartment, the Facebook post stated.

In that case, it was necessary to partially remove parts of the engine to extricate the animal.
