Man found dead Monday after Highway 58 crash

Chattanooga police who responded at about 4:40 p.m. Monday to a reported vehicle crash at 5500 Highway 58 found an unresponsive driver, who was later pronounced dead, in a car that had left the roadway, a news release states.

Investigators determined the Subaru was headed south on Highway 58 when it left the road and came to rest against a tree stump. The 72-year-old man driving the vehicle was taken by emergency medical workers to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Hamilton County medical examiner's office met with hospital medical staff and determined the man died because of a "medical event" before the crash, the news release states.
