Suspect arrested in July 23 slaying of man in Ooltewah

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the July 23 killing of a man in Ooltewah.

Hamilton County Sheriff's Office detectives found Rodney Antonio Gearing, 48, in the 8100 block of Old Cleveland Pike in Ooltewah and took him into custody around 6 p.m., according to a news release.

"He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Hamilton County Jail where he is being booked on the charge of Criminal Homicide," the release states.

Earlier this afternoon, the Hamilton County Magistrate had signed a warrant for Gearing's arrest, charging him with criminal homicide in connection with the murder of Gary Percill McPherson.

No further details were made available, as this is an ongoing investigation, the release states.
