Maintaining independence and staying at home longer is a goal for many local seniors. Keefe Plumbing offers age-inplace remodels to kitchen and bathrooms that help to that end.

Keefe Plumbing President Kay Keefe and Service Manager Lamar Stephens.

"Some people find they need to make these rooms handicap accessible," explained company President Kay Keefe. "We offer many solutions to help make things more comfortable at home."

Age-in-place remodels can entail taking out a bathtub and replacing it with a standing shower, or simply adding grab bars and seats in an existing bath or shower to provide extra support. Each job is based on the client's needs.

"Our service manager is Lamar Stephens, and he comes out to the home and gives free estimates on all remodels," Keefe noted. "He does all kinds of work, from these remodels to sewer lines and more."

After reviewing the job with the owner in the privacy and comfort of their own home, the client then

decides if they want Keefe Plumbing to take the job. If the answer is yes, the client can expect everything to be done to the highest level and in a very timely fashion, said Keefe.

"We've been in business for 64 years, so people can rest assured that it will be good work and quality customer service," she said. "Working with subcontractors and having our own people on staff, we take care of everything."

In cases where clients have become wheelchair bound, options for a home remodel include installing a curb-less shower that the chair can be rolled into for easy bathing. The local company also furnishes and installs comfort-height fixtures.

"It's about helping people stay at home as long as they can," said Keefe. "Some people also look at adding an in-law suite to their home and decide to go ahead and make that plumbing age-in-place or handicap accessible. We can take care of that too and have it all ready."

Keefe Plumbing is equipped and prepared to do any job - from a simple task like adding fixtures to completely gutting the house and starting on studs - when it comes to these bathroom remodels. In the kitchen, the main adjustment is replacing the handles on faucets with levers for easier use, said Keefe.

"We will always try to help people adapt to what they already have to help save money where they can," she noted.

Clients can call to set up a consultation for a free estimate on a remodel, or they are welcome to stop by Keefe Plumbing to get more information or even visit the parts center for pieces to handle elements of such a remodel on their own.

Keefe Plumbing is a part of the Tennessee Association of Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors and is licensed in Tennessee and Georgia. Located at 1820 E. 23rd St., the business is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To learn more or contact Keefe for a job, call 423-622-3178 or visit keefeplumbing.com.
