Epiphany Salon relocates to North Shore

* Name: Epiphany Salon & Day Spa

* Location: 330 Frazier Ave.

* Products/services: Hair cuts start at $24 for men, $35 for women. In addition to natural nail services, hair cuts, styling and coloring, the store offers a "hair color bar" to allow customers to customize their own unique hair color, or consult with an expert to create a designer "do."

At the salon's "beauty bar," patrons can mix and customize their own lotions, conditioners, shampoo and cleaning products using ingredients supplied by local company Simply Me. The spa offers massages, body wraps, scrubs, facials, waxing, and microdermabrasion options to clients.

* Age: The company was founded in 2001. Beth Kaylor and Genia Church have owned it for the past two years.

* Annual sales: $400,000 a year

* Target market: Four stylists, one maseusse, one skin therapist, and one nail/hair specialist serve customers from middle-school age through retirement age at the chic new shop. Owner Church said the shop is "multicultural" and welcomes all races. Ms. Laylor specializes in men's styling, and the store carries both men's and women's hair products.

* Biggest hurdle: While the salon was founded in 2001, the current owners bought the business in 2008 during the recession and had trouble getting loans to finance their venture, they said.

* Biggest reward: "The clients are awesome, and we have an awesome team," said Ms. Kaylor.

* Challenges in the future: Continuing to offer unique services and products, staying fresh, and continuing to be seen as a "progressive salon."

* Lesson learned: In moving to their new North Shore location on Frazier Ave., Ms. Kaylor and Ms. Church learned that the support from the downtown community and being located next to other merchants is worth the trouble of moving.

* Five-year goal: To be voted the best salon in Chattanooga
