Airport hires Wilson Air Center

Chattanooga airport officials Monday approved Memphis-based Wilson Air Center as manager of a planned general aviation terminal.

Mike Landguth, Airport Authority president, said the company will have a five-year contract.

The Authority agreed to provide up to a $96,185 startup budget for Wilson through Jan. 31.

Bob Wilson, chief executive of Wilson Air Center, said the company operates at Memphis' airport; at Charlotte, N.C.; and at William P. Hobby Airport in Houston.

"We'd love to be your front door," Wilson said. "What you've got proposed is great."

Wilson was one of four companies that bid for the management contract.

The airport has a $10 million plan to add new general aviation facilities on the west side of the main runway.

Existing fixed-base operator Tac Air has said the second company isn't needed.
