Newspaper's Taylor wins honor for branding efforts

The Chattanooga chapter of American Advertising Federation will award its 2009 Silver Medal to Jason Taylor, president and general manager of the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Mr. Taylor is scheduled to receive the award today for his revamp of the newspaper's online and offline advertising design as well as for his support for volunteer work, according to Megan Moe, chairwoman of the event.

"Anyone who has read the Times Free Press has noticed the surge in quality since Jason Taylor came two years ago," Ms. Moe said.

Mr. Taylor, who had worked as vice president for sales and marketing at The Honolulu Advertiser, was named executive of the year in 2006 by Gannett Co., which has 96 daily newspapers. He also received that company's chairman's award in 2006 and 2007.

"I am flattered to be recognized with such an honor when I have only called Chattanooga home for a couple of years," Mr. Taylor said. "I am more excited for our team here at the Times Free Press. I think this award is just another validation that our peers and our community see the growth and progress we have made here at the newspaper over the past two years."

Roy McDonald, the late founder and publisher of the Chattanooga Free Press, a predecessor of the Times Free Press, is a previous winner of the honor.

The award ceremony is set today at 11:30 a.m. in The Chattanoogan hotel on Broad Street.
