Unum investing chief leaving

Chattanooga's Unum Group announced Wednesday the departure of Frank Williamson, senior vice president and chief investment officer, saying that he was leaving to "pursue other interests" after 15 years with the insurance giant.

He will temporarily remain with the company as an adviser, during which time Unum plans to bring back former senior vice president and chief investment officer David Fussell in an interim capacity until the company names a successor.

Unum President and CEO Tom Watjen praised Mr. Williamson.

"Frank has made tremendous contributions to Unum over the last 15 years, and we certainly wish him well as he pursues other personal and professional interests," he said, also expressing gratitude that Mr. Fussell agreed to take over in the meantime.

"We're fortunate that David has agreed to come out of retirement on an interim basis to help assure that we maintain our current investment strategy and to oversee a portfolio that is among the strongest and most highly regarded in the industry. His past experience and knowledge of the function will no doubt ensure a smooth transition in leadership."
