Carpet group, lawmakers meet

Carpet and rug industry officials met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill recently to discuss the industry, according to a news release.

Werner Braun, president of the Carpet and Rug Institute, headed up the event. He was joined by Brian Anderson of the Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce, Louis Fordham of J&J Industries, Rick Hooper from Shaw and Jim Lucke from Mohawk in petitioning federal lawmakers.

According to the release, industry officials said they oppose the Employee Free Choice Act (Card Check) bill, suggested a home furnishings tax credit and asked that CRI members be allowed to voluntarily reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Carpet representatives also asked lawmakers to consider moderating several environmental proposals being considered, the group said.

Traynor to head TVA IT division

TVA has hired a top Southern Co. computer and telecommunications executive to complete the agency's top management tier.

Daniel Traynor, director of infrastructure services for Southern Co. Services in Atlanta, joins TVA in Chattanooga as chief information officer.

TVA Vice President Jacinda Woodward has been acting chief information officer since last fall. Mr. Traynor is among a half dozen top TVA executives hired from other utilities in the past four years to fill most of the top jobs with the federal utility.
