George Quick helps make productions happen at Theatre Centre

* Name: George Quick

* Job title: Producing director

* Location: Chattanooga Theatre Centre

* First job: He worked in bookkeeping at a bank when he was a high school student. He recalled it being "a long time ago -- in the early '70s."

* Favorite part of job: "I have a lot of favorite parts. The favorite part is when it all comes together. When you see the plays come together with all the elements that people have made and rehearsed and the people coming into the theater. You just see it all come together."

* Special rewards: The people with whom he works and watching them grow. "That's not just people on stage either. It's people that sew and paint and do all kinds of things for us. Watching relationships grow. It's very rewarding."

* Best advice: "My best advice would be to be open to change and to look for opportunity. While we all have certain goals and dreams, sometimes something can come along that doesn't look like what you think you want, and yet if you explore it, if you find out about it, it might be just the thing that fulfills you."

* Making a career of it: Pursue education both in arts and business. Find a good arts management program to get a competitive edge. Gain experience in all aspects of theater. "Jump in and volunteer. If you want to run a theater, you need to know how to do everything. I've acted, I've directed, I've built, I've painted, I've sewn, I've worked in the box office, I've worked in development, I've worked in marketing. I think you have to be very well-rounded."
