Name: Fitness Together
Location: 313 Manufacturers Road next to Greenlife Grocery
Products/services: Fitness Together offers one-on-one personal training, with privacy, no waiting on equipment and no distractions, according to manager and personal trainer Kyle Johnston. Visitors receive a complimentary screening, consultation and full training session to evaluate their strengths and goals.
Age: The business is 6 years old, and has been at its location on Manufacturers Road for seven months since its move from Frazier Avenue.
Startup investment: Roughly $350,000
Number of clients: 130, or around 70 percent of capacity
Target market: Men and women 34 to 60 paying between $43 to $67 per session are the most common type of customer.
Biggest hurdle: Keeping clients happy by retaining trainers is important, because changing to a new trainer is very hard for clients who prefer continuity, Johnston said.
Biggest reward: "Seeing an individual who has low self-esteem change their life through exercise and nutrition, and then pass that change on to their children through the generations," Johnston said.
Challenges in the future: Trying to get potential clients to see that Fitness Together isn't like other gyms, he said.
Five-year goal: Johnston wants to maintain Fitness Together's status as the "benchmark of personal training in Chattanooga" as he continues to "push customer service to the hilt."
(Editor's Note: The Times Free Press contracts with Fitness Together to offer on-site fitness services to newspaper employees.)
