The Chattanooga division of Volkswagen Group of America has established a $100,000 tornado assistance fund to assist local tornado-ravaged victims.
"In the aftermath of the powerful storms that hit the Chattanooga area recently, our immediate concern is for those who were directly affected and our thoughts are with our neighbors in the region," said Frank Fischer, CEO of Volkswagen Chattanooga.
The Volkswagen tornado assistance fund will be administered by the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, which will distribute the money and establish an online donation portal for other gifts next week.
Storm cut phones for 600 in Apison
CenturyLink said Friday that 600 of its customers in the Apison community are still without phone service from severe storms that swept the area Wednesday.
The phone company said the area has been without electricity and numerous utility poles are down.
CenturyLink said it doesn't know when its service will be restored in the area, noting that some of the areas are still not accessible except for safety and rescue crews.
