Standard & Poor's upgraded its outlook for Chattanooga-based Unum on Monday, changing the rating for the insurer to "positive" from "stable."
S&P analyst Neal Freedman said Unum had improved and stabilized its operating performance, increased diversification and maintained statutory capital in excess of the rating.
"Standard & Poor's expects that Unum will maintain financial discipline and will continue to focus on sales growth in the more profitable smaller-case-size business," the company wrote.
