TVA leads nation in reduction of carbon dioxide emissions

The TVA headquarters building is located in downtown Chattanooga.

TVA led the nation in the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions among major U.S. utilities from 2005 to 2010.

1. Tennessee Valley Authority, reduced CO2 emissions by 19 million tons

2. Southern Co., reduced CO2 emissions by 15 million tons

3. American Electric Power, reduced CO2 emissions by 15 million tons

4. FirstEnergy, reduced C02 emissions by 14 million tons

5. NRG Energy, reduced CO2 emissions by 10 million tons
