Planners delay review of Hamilton Place mall-sized development slated for Hixson

photo Scenic Land Co. wants to rezone 190 acres for apartments, stores and offices on this property adjacent to state Highway 153 and Boy Scout Road.

A zoning change proposed for a Hamilton Place mall-sized development planned just miles from Northgate mall will be acted on no earlier than February.

The Regional Planning Agency on Monday deferred the proposed commercial and residential development, waiting for developers to submit a more detailed site plan and studies on traffic, grading and stormwater for the steep, wooded site off state Highway 153. After those reports are submitted, developer Duane Horton must hold a meeting with area residents before the development could be approved.

"This worries me a little bit," said Jerry Jones, who lives next door to the project. "I've tried to talk to the developers, but they don't want to listen."
