Members of the Carter Street Corp., the body that oversees the Chattanooga Convention Center, will painstakingly analyze the organization's budget in the next month to chisel off pieces that could save money in the long run.
Board member Bill Raines Jr., asked Executive Director Mike Shuford on Wednesday during the monthly board meeting if the capital and operations budgets could be examined to find "things that can be recontracted or rebid."
"Let's see if there are new eyes out there, new ways of doing things," Raines said. "Any way to reduce anything."
Shuford said by the next meeting a proposed budget will be ready for the board to review. A large chunk of the capital budget will focus on the need for new carpet in the facility that stretches more than two football fields in length, he said.
During the meeting Wednesday, Shuford noted that December, typically a slow time, was a normal month for the convention center, bringing in $276,000 in gross revenue and $117,000 in net revenue.
The board also passed a resolution expressing "deep gratitude and appreciation" for former Hamilton County Mayor Claude Ramsey, thanking him for his leadership and support of the Chattanooga Convention Center.
