IRS to hold open house in city

Taxpayers who would like face-to-face help with federal tax matters but can't visit an IRS office during the work week will have an opportunity Saturday at the Chattanooga IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center.

The center, located at 5740 Uptain Road, will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The IRS will particularly be offering help and advice during July to people who are struggling with paying off federal tax liabilities.

"Due to changes in IRS collection procedures, this is a good time for taxpayers who owe federal taxes and are facing tough times to get a fresh start with the IRS," said Dan Boone, IRS spokesman.

Workers sought for Lowe's in Rome

ROME, Ga. - Contractors are being sought for a massive distribution center being planned in the northwest Georgia city of Rome, which could bring hundreds of new jobs to the region.

Plans for the distribution center known as Project River have been in the works, but the corporation behind the project has been a mystery.

The Rome News-Tribune reports that a North Carolina firm has taken out legal advertisements seeking workers to do paving and other work for a Lowe's Home Improvement distribution center in Rome.

The newspaper has reported that Project River, planned for the new 375-acre North Floyd Industrial Park, could bring more than 600 jobs to the site.
