Areva's U.S. and Canadian business produced about $2 billion in revenue last year, according to the company.

A company with offices in downtown Chattanooga that now are home just to empty cubicles and three employees soon will hold about 20 more workers.

Areva, a Paris-based nuclear-engineering firm with 5,000 employees in North America and $2 billion in revenue last year, signed a long-term contract with TVA in 2009, and the new Broad Street office will support that work, officials said.

Rodney Cavalieri of Areva said his job is to make sure TVA has what it needs from his company. The office has capacity for enhancing technical capabilities and logistics with space for expansion, according to the company. Areva also is ready to offer support to other utility companies nearby, officials said.

Mike Rencheck, chief operating officer of Areva, said in a statement that the company is committed to providing world-class solutions for clean power generation and continues to invest and create jobs in the U.S.

"Our new office in Chattanooga will support our mission to help our customers produce clean, reliable, cost-effective energy," he said.

Cavalieri, who has worked for Areva in Chattanooga for two years since the contract with TVA was signed, said he's happy to have his own office now. He had been working out of space that TVA gave him.
