Thompson named controller at GPS
Elizabeth Thompson, CPA, has been named the new controller at Girls Preparatory School. A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Thompson has extensive experience in nonprofit accounting and is a member of a financial review panel for Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga's annual agency allocation.
She was formerly employed by Henderson Hutcherson McCullough PLLC and CBL & Associates Management Inc. She is a member of both the Tennessee and American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants and the American Society of Women Accountants.
She, her husband and two sons live in Ringgold, Ga.
Chambliss, Bahner picked for TMA
The Chattanooga-based law firm of Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel, P.C. has been selected by the Tennessee Medical Association to provide TMA members legal services, including employment contract review and negotiation, and insurance provider agreement review and negotiation services.
"Our firm has extensive experience representing physicians on a wide variety of issues, and we are honored to be chosen by the TMA for this program," said Mark Cunningham, who leads the Chambliss firm's health care law group. "We recognize that innovative, cost-effective solutions to legal issues are more important than ever for Tennessee physicians."
Dr. Matthew Mancini, chairman of the TMA board of trustees, said the new program exemplifies TMA's efforts to promote excellence in health care across the state.
Founded in 1830, the TMA has a membership of 7,800 individuals.
Stein Construction wins Y-12 honor
B&W Y-12 LLC, the company that manages all the National Nuclear Security Administration's Oak Ridge facilities, recently recognized Stein Construction with its Small Business of the Year award for construction.
Stein Construction, started in 1912, is Chattanooga's oldest general contractor. It built the new Bear Creek Road Bypass within the federal facility. The job was completed on time, under budget and with zero safety incidents.
"That's tremendous," said Ted Sherry from the NNSA's Y-12 office.
Stein is led by fourth- generation President Doug Stein.
Local tobacconists earn designation
Matthew Allen, Charles E. Bingham, and Jason Bean of Burns Tobacconist in Chattanooga have earned the designation of certified retail tobacconist from Tobacconist University. The recognition is the official curriculum resource of the International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association.
Allen, Bingham and Bean were awarded CRT recognition after participating in an academic curriculum and testing process that enabled them to achieve superior technical and marketing knowledge about premium cigars, pipes, premium tobacco and related accessories. Tobacconist University is an independent teaching and research organization dedicated to preserving the traditions and enhancing the knowledge and skills of retailers and consumers who appreciate luxury tobacco.
