Driving costs up 1.9 cents a mile
The cost of operating a typical sedan car rose in the past year by 1.9 cents per mile to 59.6 cents per mile, according to a AAA study released Friday. For those driving an average of 15,000 miles a year, AAA estimates the average cost of owning and operating a sedan is $8,946 a year. John Nielsen, AAA director of automotive engineering and repair, said most of the increase stems from the 14.8 percent increase in fuel costs from 2011 to 2012.

Ex-AT&T leader on BlueCross board
Retired AT&T Corp. executive Marty G. Dickens, of Nashville, has been elected to serve on the board of directors of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Dickens, who served as Tennessee president of AT&T, retired from his 39-year career with the communications company in 2007. He is a past chairman of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau.
