Greenlife puts on Whole Foods name
Two and a half years after buying Greenlife grocery stores in Chattanooga and Asheville, N.C., Whole Foods Market Inc. is putting its name on its North Shore store today.
"We've completed the renovation and store layout changes and we're ready to rebrand the store," Whole Foods spokeswoman Darrah Horgan said Tuesaday.
Greenlife opened at Two North Shore on Manufacturers Road in 2007, eight years after Chuck Pruett opened the business in 1999 in Riverview. He and Asheville business partner John Swann opened the Asheville Greenlife store in 2004.
The Asheville Greenlife store will keep its name, although Whole Foods is planning another store in Asheville with its own name, Horgan said. To mark the new name, Whole Foods is offering prizes and celebrations over the next five days.
FedEx Ground rates to rise 4.9%
FedEx Corp., announced Tuesday it will increase shipping rates for FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery by a net average of 4.9 percent, effective Jan. 7. The FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery full average rate increase of 5.9 percent will be partially offset by adjusting for fuel prices. FedEx previously announced in September that it will increase shipping rates for FedEx Express by a net average of 3.9 percent for U.S. domestic, U.S. export and U.S. import services, also effective in January.
Volunteer help sought for taxes
With the 2013 tax filing season fast approaching, the Internal Revenue Service and the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga are looking for volunteers to help others by preparing federal income tax returns for free.
"People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to volunteer," said Val Palmer, the Urban League's tax program coordinator.
Volunteers generally study online to obtain their volunteer certification to help others prepare their returns during the filing season from February through April. To volunteer, contact vpalmer@ulchatt.net or call 423-756-1762, ext. 19.
Last year, nearly 99,000 Americans volunteered to provide free tax services through IRS tax help programs.
