Chattanooga-based Niedlov's, a popular downtown bakery, has moved to shut down its satellite location in St. Elmo because of flagging bread sales.

"The long-term goal was always to get up to selling north of 50 loaves of bread per day there, and we just haven't gotten there," said co-owner John Sweet. The bakery hasn't lost money at the St. Elmo location, and he's still open to the idea of opening other stores.

"But for us and who we are, it wasn't worth the energy," Sweet said.

Talks already are under way with potential operators to take over the old Shapiro's Deli, where Sweet began selling bread in early January 2011.
