Name: The Center on Main
Location: 320 E. Main St.
Status: Workers are currently preparing the site, excavating the area, installing utilities and laying out parking. The plan is to open the facility in summer 2013, officials say. The business will relocate from its current offices on Third Street.
Cost: Less than $3 million
Features: The Center will serve as a medical spa and family medical practice for area residents. The Center will also specialize in holistic medicine approaches to healing. The exterior will consist of a masonry veneer facing Main Street, with commercial fiber cement planks covering the upper level and rear of the structure. Plans call for a landscaped courtyard and a water garden in the rear.
The interior will begin with polished concrete floors in the main areas, while workers will cover private spaces with carpet and ceramic tiles. On the walls, drywall and wood trim will surround guests, and the wooden ceilings will likely feature recycled roof joists for a striking accent. Some of the private spaces will have carpet or a ceramic tile pattern. There will be drywall with wood trim surround and probably a couple wooden ceilings here and there. Developers are trying to use the old roof joists from the building that's there for some accent walls and treads on the stairs.
• Environmental impact: Architect Eric Myers says he's shooting for a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver certification. To achieve the goal, the plans require a heavy emphasis on water quantity and quality. The building will also incorporate features that facilitate mass transit, such as bicycle stands, showers and changing facilities. Myers is also working on high-efficiency heating and air systems, LED lighting and the use of recycled building materials.
Contractor: The Strauss Co.
