Hair a Go-Go remodel puts stylists in closer proximity

• Name: Hair a Go-Go

• Location: 307 Manufacturers Road, suite 205

• Status: Workers are putting the finishing touches on a project they began in January to split Hair a Go-Go's 7,000 square feet in two. In short, the hair salon is shrinking its footprint and moving to occupy just 3,500 square feet in its existing space, freeing up the rest for a new tenant, said business owner Elizabeth Tate. All 21 employees will keep their jobs in the new, more intimate space, she added. "We were paying for lots of really big hallways; it was just too much space," Tate said. "I realized I had a disconnect with my staff." Two North Shore, meanwhile, is working to separate the new space from her existing studio, said contractor Mike Croxall. The project, started in January, should be complete this week.

• Price: $50,000

• Features: Workers are building a new demising wall, which separates the old space from the new space and adds fire protection. They've also removed several existing partition walls to create more room in the old space and built new freestanding walls for hair cutting stations, Croxall said. Workers have also built a new consultation box, several dressing rooms and a new break room and kitchen. The last part of the plan includes new ductwork, new office space, painting and flooring work, he said.

• Amenities: The new space has 141/2 -foot ceilings; exposed, stained concrete; plenty of office or mixed-retail space; and plenty of windows.

• Contractor: Mike Croxall, Croxall Construction Co.
