Promoters of Chattanooga's gigabit-per-second Internet links are taking their pitch for the "Gig City" to Texas this weekend. Jack Studer, a partner in the Lamp Post Group, said more than 80 computer programmers have applied for one of the 25 Gig City prizes being awarded this summer.

Studer said Alcatel-Lucent, which is helping sponsor the Gig City competition, also is helping Chattanooga appeal to even more Web developers at Austin's South by Southwest music, arts and interactive media conference from March 9 to 18.

"This is another chance to spread the word about Chattanooga having the fastest, citywide Internet in the country and to help us let people know about the growing opportunities here," Studer said.
