Moody's Investors Services has reaffirmed its bond rating for Erlanger Health System, citing a "new dynamic chief executive officer with operational improvement experience" who "will lead turnaround initiatives." Moody's, which rates Erlanger bonds with a midrange Baa2 rating, said the hospital is working for additional payments for the Public Hospital Supplemental Payment Pool, a designated pool for safety net hospitals in Tennessee. Erlanger CEO Kevin Spiegel said the Moody's affirmation of Erlanger's bonds "is a vote of confidence in our strategies" but also "a call to action" to "move forward with our cost saving initiatives."
Amazon.com will begin collecting sales taxes in Georgia on Sept. 1. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported Friday that the world's biggest Internet retailer will start collecting sales taxes for shipments in Georgia next month. The Georgia Retail Association, which represents primarily brick-and-mortar conventional merchants, said the change should help put all retailers on a more level playing field and collect at least $16 million more in state taxes. Last year, Georgia passed a law designed to collect taxes from online retailers. Amazon will begin collecting sales taxes in Tennessee in January.
