Furloughs hit IRS offices

The Internal Revenue Service is closing its 400 offices until next Monday in a cost-saving measure due to the federal budget sequester.

As was the case with previous furlough days on May 24 and June 14, IRS employees will be furloughed without pay on Friday.

The shutdown will limit most IRS activity but it will have no impact on any tax-filing or tax-payment deadlines. The remaining scheduled furlough days are July 22 and Aug. 30.
