Gary Griffith Cycle is set to double its showroom space with a coming expansion that will add bikes from Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM, known for its high-end, offroad machines.

"We're hoping to get them at the right time, while they're growing really fast," said owner Gary Griffith.

KTM, which sold more than 120,000 motorcycles in 2013, is a points leader in professional supercross races and is becoming more popular with enthusiast riders, Griffith said. The retail entrepreneur plans to add another 7,000 square feet to his existing 6,000 square foot showroom in the complex of buildings he owns at 4704 Dodds Ave.

The goal is to have construction done by April, at which point he'll have doubled inventory to $2 million, including $250,000 worth of used bikes, Griffith said. Including son Jeff Griffith, three family members work at the shop along eith eight other motorcycle employees. The company could bring in three new workers as the expansion ramps up, the elder Griffith said.

"It's fun, it's exciting work, doing motorcycling," he said. "That's my whole life. It's all I've ever done."
