Jim Weigert, Comcast's vice president and general manager for the past three years, has left the company as part of a reorganization, a spokesman said Wednesday.
Weigert, who came to Chattanooga in 2011, led the cable giant's operations and marketing battle against competitor EPB and AT&T. He also oversaw the consoldation of the company's regional dispatch office in Chattanooga and successfully involved Comcast in several educational initiatives, sponsoring individual schools and launching a local educational channel.
Weigert made headlines in Chattanooga by trumpeting Comcast's technological edge over the competition, particularly the company's mobile app offerings. But despite his best efforts, EPB utility picked up tens of thousands of Comcast customers with the promise of gigabit speeds, increased reliability and better customer service.
Comcast is seaching for a successor, but spokesman Andy Macke said that the company will continue Weigert's policy of community involvement.
"That level of commitment will continue, but I suspect you'll see us get involved in some other things as well," Macke said.
